Reshum Aurora

As a youth environmental researcher and activist from Massachusetts, I usually work with statistics and policies to try and move the needle for climate action, but I’ve come to realize that moving people takes more than facts.

In my community, and with my family and friends, I’ve found that people often feel detached from climate change because “it is a distant problem that does not involve them.” With so much bad news reaching us through TV and social media, I’ve noticed that for a headline to stick, an existing emotional connection makes all the difference between inaction and movement.

Taking inspiration from transcendentalists like Thoreau and Emerson, I’m writing Pick the Flower, Water Its Roots to help revitalize ecopoetry and show an increasingly digitally focused population the value of nature, and hopefully, instill a sense of responsibility in protecting it.
